JCI Senate Philippines and Insular Life launch the Search for The Outstanding Filipino of 2013

Building a legacy is similar to planting a tree: it takes years before it becomes strong enough to bear fruits.

Thus, for the last 25 years, the JCI Senate Philippines and Insular Life have honored the best exemplars of Filipino excellence and social commitment through the annual search for The Outstanding Filipino, or the TOFIL awards, as their legacy to the country’s youth.

On March 22, the two organizations formally opened the search for TOFIL awardees for 2013. JCI Senate National President JCI Sen. Hermin E. Arceo and Insular Life Chairman of the Board and CEO Vicente R. Ayllón led guests in simple ceremonies to launch the 26th TOFIL awards at the Insular Life Makati Multi-purpose Hall recently. JCI Senator John Enerio was appointed National Chairman of this year’s TOFIL Search.

2013 JCI Senate National President Hermin Arceo in his message said that TOFIL helps in bringing to public recognition the outstanding Filipinos who would otherwise have remained unknown. Thus, through this Search, the TOFIL honorees will serve as inspiration to the present and coming generations of Filipinos to emulate.

For his part, Ayllón spoke about how TOFIL honorees worked to make a difference in people’s lives, even in the face of difficulties. “Indeed, it is for this reason that Insular Life has stood behind the TOFIL awards for the last 25 years. We believe that odds are not insurmountable, if one has the vision to plan ahead and to have the courage to bring this vision to action.

An annual recognition program, TOFIL recognizes men and women, 41 years and above, who have excelled in their fields of endeavor and have contributed significantly to the upliftment of lives. On January 8, 2013, three new awardees for 2012 joined TOFIL’s 115-strong circle: Associate Justice Adolf S. Azcuna for Justice/Law; Police Director Atty. Samuel D. Pagdilao, Jr. for Military/Police work; and Jose F. Datuin for the Arts.

Interested parties may now nominate the 2013 TOFIL awardees. Nomination forms for the 2013 TOFIL award are available at the JCI Senate Philippines secretariat, 2/F JCI Senate Phils. Building, 14 Don Alejandro Roces Avenue, Quezon City, telephone no. 374-4390, and through JCI Senate Chapter offices nationwide. Forms may also be downloaded from www.tofil.ph.

Deadline for submission of nominations is on August 31, 2013.
